Waiver Eligibility

Waiver Eligibility

The Journal of Emerging Medical Sciences (JEMS) is committed to fostering equitable access to scientific publishing by supporting authors from economically constrained regions. In line with international standards, JEMS offers a waiver policy for Article Processing Charges (APC) to ensure that financial limitations do not hinder the dissemination of high-quality research.

Authors may be eligible for a full or partial waiver of the APC if they meet specific criteria. The corresponding author must be affiliated with an academic or research institution located in a low-income country, as defined by the World Bank. In addition, the corresponding author is required to have a valid ORCID ID to promote transparency and uphold authorship integrity. To support the waiver request, a formal letter must be provided by a financial administrator or research director from the institution, certifying that the author is unable to cover the APC due to financial hardship. All waiver requests must be submitted concurrently with the manuscript, accompanied by the necessary documentation.

JEMS adheres to the World Bank's classification of low-income countries when determining eligibility for APC waivers. Authors affiliated with institutions in countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, among others, are eligible to apply. The full list includes over 50 countries with limited economic resources and is periodically updated based on World Bank data.

To apply for a waiver, authors must clearly indicate their request in the cover letter during manuscript submission and upload the required financial hardship documentation. It is the responsibility of the author to ensure that all eligibility criteria are fulfilled at the time of submission. The JEMS Editorial Board evaluates each waiver request individually and will notify applicants of its decision within two weeks. Importantly, the waiver application process is entirely separate from the editorial and peer-review process, ensuring that all submissions are assessed based solely on their academic merit.

Waivers are granted based on the availability of journal funding and are subject to editorial discretion. Authors seeking additional information or wishing to submit a waiver request may contact the JEMS Editorial Office directly at editor@jemedsci.com.

Through this waiver program, JEMS reaffirms its commitment to inclusive and equitable scholarly communication, supporting researchers from diverse global backgrounds in sharing their scientific contributions without financial barriers.
